I was so busy last week, I didn’t get a chance to write my blog! I’m hoping once we hit the road I’ll figure out how to better manage my time, so I never miss a week again. But last week was crazy, so I kind of have an excuse.
August 11 was our 8 year anniversary. We decided to do a commitment ceremony, as opposed to a wedding. We weren’t concerned about the legalities, so a commitment ceremony is waaaayyy cheaper than a wedding.
All week I was preparing for our party. From hair and nail appointments, to grocery shopping and cooking, I really didn’t stop for about 4 days. It was exhausting, but totally worth it!
I woke up early that morning to go get my hair done with my cousin, mom and sister-in-law. Everything was going smoothly until we got kicked out for two house showings right before the ceremony! We really were hoping to have the house sold before the party. Luckily, my poppa lives right around the corner so we went over to his place to finish getting ready.
The day was perfect. We had just about an hour of rain (which is supposed to be lucky, right?) and a great turn out of all our friends and family. Our ceremony was on a whim. We let our family know about it just a few days before. It was short and sweet, my poppa read us a poem and we said some vows. Then we took some family photos before heading to our house to party.
My mom ordered us a pig (thanks again mom!!) and we had a fantastic pig roast with baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, coleslaw, veggies and dip, buns and jalapeno cornbread. Thank God for my mom, step mom and mother-in-law. They really helped a lot with all the food. I couldn’t have done it without them. I keep saying it, but it really was a perfect day.
We tried to record as much of the day as we could, and we put together a video of our “uniquely strange and beautiful day” (thanks Matt for the fantastic description, it really suits us perfect!!) So check out our video, it’s up on our website, and stay tuned!! We have some big news coming very soon!!
